NL Broadcasting Ltd. – A History Of Growth.

NL Broadcasting began serving the South Central Interior of British Columbia on May 16, 1970 with stations CHNL in Kamloops and CJNL in Merritt. During the years since that time, the stations and its personnel have maintained a devotion to local community service. Consequently, both have won numerous awards from industry and community groups recognizing that support. These include being named the BC Association of Broadcasters (BCAB) “Station Of The Year”, The BCAB’s “Community Service” Station Of The Year, The Jack Webster Foundation Award for “Best Radio News Reporting” and receiving several accolades from the City Of Kamloops in appreciation of our efforts.

CHNL continues to be the news and information station for Kamloops area residents. In 1993, we purchased another local station on the frequency of 97.5 FM and re-named it “The River”. Since then, with call letters CKRV, it has featured Hot Adult Contemporary music and is very actively involved in the support of Canadian artists. The latest station filled a demand for country music in Kamloops when we were successful in being licensed by the CRTC for CJKC, Country 103 at 103.1 FM. This station began broadcasting in August of 2006 and it has met with great audience acceptance due to the hard work and efforts of the people working at the station.

NL Broadcasting Ltd. remains a locally owned company with shareholders working in the stations. We are very proud of the accomplishments of the 3 stations in Kamloops – Radio NL 610AM (News.Talk.Sports.), 97.5 FM The River (Today’s Hot Hits) and CJKC – 103.1 FM (Country 103). Combined, they give the company a dominant position in serving residents.
